Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Overview

The proposed program intends to equip students with a comprehensive theoretical and practical foundation in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, focusing on medicinal drugs derived from both synthetic and natural origins. The curriculum addresses the examination of pharmaceuticals and includes aspects of drug development. It covers both qualitative and quantitative analytical methodologies, the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, and the chemistry of natural products in accordance with established regulatory standards. This is a two-year full-time residential program that emphasizes professional training in the handling and testing of natural pharmaceuticals and related products using analytical instruments such as HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS, HPTLC, FTIR, IR, GC, and DSC. Furthermore, students will be familiarized with the latest industry trends, as well as the standards set by national and international organizations. Research components include in-silico design and synthesis, employing techniques such as conventional methods, microwave assistance, and the development of combinatorial approaches.

Message from the HoD

Gcptnadia-Media-Element

It gives us immense pleasure to share the academic journey, achievements, and ongoing initiatives of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, GCPT. Pharmaceutical Chemistry serves as an important link between basic chemical sciences and the development of medicines, and our department strives to help students understand this connection through both classroom learning and practical exposure.

At GCPT, we believe that pharmaceutical education should go beyond textbooks. Our department encourages students to develop a strong understanding of drug structures, chemical reactions, synthesis, analytical techniques, and the principles involved in drug discovery and development. Along with fundamental concepts, we aim to introduce students to emerging areas such as computational approaches, molecular modelling, synthetic and medicinal chemistry, analytical investigations, and the study of natural products for potential pharmaceutical applications.

Practical learning remains an integral part of our academic approach. Through laboratory work, students are encouraged to develop experimental skills, accuracy, scientific reasoning, and the ability to interpret results. We also motivate students to approach their academic projects with curiosity and creativity, thereby developing an attitude towards research and problem-solving.
